LSA offers both on ice and off ice sessions and classes for skaters of various levels and with differing objectives. A description of these sessions is listed below to assist you and your coach in determining your training needs. Skaters who wish to pre-register for sessions may do so by entering into a contract. Contracts are available five times a year: Winter, Spring, Summer, and Fall as well as a Back-to-School Mini Contract which allows skaters to assess their school year obligations. A contract allows the skater to pre-register at a lower price and to secure a place on a session. Contracting also allows LSA, as a non-profit organization, to better plan it's programs and to maintain programs while meeting its financial responsibilities. Please contact Rebecca Hatch-Purnell at hatchpurnell@insightbb.com or call 415-0962 if you have questions regarding the contracting process.
Skaters must be associate or full members of LSA in order to enter into a contract.
Skating Levels
The following levels are defined by LSA for LSA training programs only. These levels are not the same as US Figure Skating levels and are used solely to determine which skaters are eligible for different classes and sessions. Skaters must have achieved one of the test levels indicated.
| High: | Juvenile Free Skate, Intermediate Moves in the Field, Adult Gold Moves, and up. |
| Intermediate: | Pre-Preliminary Free Skate, Preliminary Moves in the Field, Adult Pre-Bronze Moves, and up. |
| Low: | Passed Basic Skills Level 4 or higher. |
| Open or Bridge: | Skaters of any level. |
| Adult: | Skaters 18+ years of age. |
| High Dance: | Bronze Dance level (passed all 3 bronze dances) and higher. |
| Low Dance: | No tests through some bronze dances but not all. |
Sessions and Classes
| Freestyle Session: | On ice time for practice and/or private lessons. Freestyle sessions are designated by skating level (see above) to provide optimal training and safety for the skaters on these sessions. |
| Dance Session: | This on-ice session is designed for those skaters working on US Figure Skating dance tests. Music for the compulsory dances from Preliminary and up will be played. No group instruction will be provided. Private lessons may be taken during this session. |
| Adult: | Skaters must be 18 years of age and older. Skaters may be of any level to participate. |
| Power Class: | The primary focus of this class will be creating and maintaining power, improving stamina and endurance, and improving body alignment. |
| Bridge Session: | This session will include 30 minutes of group instruction and 30 minutes of free skate. Groups will work on fundamental skills relating primarily to moves in the field and dance. Lower level skaters will continue to work on basic skills. |
| Supervised Open Gym: | LSA approved trainers supervise this area various times throughout the week. Skaters who have undergone the Functional Assessment within the last 12 months may “drop in” during open gym times. Trainers will assist skaters in completing a 20-30 minute circuit workout designed for each individual based on the results from their Functional Assessment. |
| Core/Balance Group Classes: | Group classes will be offered to enhance mobility and strength. These classes will involve Pilates, yoga, and sport specific balance exercises. |
| Off Ice Jump Classes: | This group class will address plyometric training. Areas of jump technique such as jump height, rotation, and in-air and landing positions will be addressed. |
Financial Aid
LSA currently offers 2 programs to assist families with the cost of contracting for ice time. With both these opportunities, financial aid is provided in the form of credits awarded for subsequent contract payments. No cash is awarded directly. Skaters who do not contract for two contract periods following the award of such credits will forfeit such credits. Credits may not be traded, sold, or assigned to any other individual.
1. Kroger Cards
The families of contract skaters will be able to purchase rechargeable Kroger cards for the price of $5.00 each. Cards can be purchased for the immediate family and relatives with a limit of five active cards issued to any one contract skater at any time. these cards can be recharged and reused at any Kroger store (or its affiliates), with 4% of the recharged amounts being allowed to be credited towards the skater's contract payments. You will receive an email every other month stating your current credit earned. When these credits are taken, they must be noted on the memo portion of the check of a contract payment. Any credits which are unused during the current contract season or the subsequent contract season of when they were earned will be forfeited and deemed property of LSA. You will receive additional information upon receiving your card(s). For more information, please contact Del Marie Conley at conleydm@aol.com.
2. Ice Monitor Opportunities
For each hour of monitoring, your skater recieves a $5.00 credit towards their contract. Ice monitors are needed for every on-ice session that LSA provides for your skater. Ice monitor duties can include:
- playing music for skaters and coaches
- signing skaters on the ice
- collecting walk-on money
- starting and stopping on-ice sessions
It is an outstanding chance for you to earn money for your skater's contract while helping out LSA and getting to know the skaters. Please look at each contract's sessions for for ice monitor opportunities. To sign up, please contact Beverly Jones. Her email is beverlytjones@bellsouth.net.
