The U.S. Figure Skating test structure is considered the foundation of the sport in this country. Tests are available in the disciplines of Skating Skills, Singles, Pairs, and Ice Dance. While competitive skaters are required to participate in the test structure, all skaters are encouraged to take tests as a way to continually challenge themselves and advance their skills.

IJS Protocol for test credit
Athletes may receive credit for certain tests by meeting minimum scores at a competition held under the International Judge System (IJS). The athlete must “skate-up” to the event for which they are seeking test credit, in addition to having already passed any prerequisites prior to the competition event.
The fee for submitting a test for credit via this process is $20 per test. Contact the LSA test chair for more information.
For more information on applying for test credit and the current minimum scores needed to pass, please visit the testing page of the USFS website
