Frequently Asked Questions

Below are some frequently asked questions about the Learn to Skate USA program.

How do I register for Learn to Skate USA on the Entryeeze website?

Visit the Entryeeze membership page to apply and purchase your annual Learn to Skate membership. Once logged in, click “Contract Ice” in the menu, then “Browse and Purchase.” The current Learn to Skate USA session will appear with class package options to choose from.

What should I wear?

Skaters should wear comfortable, layered clothing. Water-resistant outer layers are helpful. Gloves or mittens are recommended. Socks should be snug and not bunched — wear only one pair. All beginning skaters are recommended to wear helmets.

What if I have never skated before?

There is no experience requirement to begin Learn to Skate. All beginning skaters will be taught proper techniques by our Learn to Skate USA coaching staff. Many skaters have never seen a pair of ice skates before their first class. If you have never taken lessons, you will start in Snowplow Sam (tots), Basic 1, or Adult Basic 1 and will work on falling down and getting up first.

How do I find my Learn to Skate group?

At the registration table you will receive your color-coded name tag. Your coach will be wearing the scarf color matching your name tag. A group chart is located at the registration table and announcement board. All beginner levels (Snowplow Sam, Basic 1, Adaptive 1, and Adult 1) start the first day of the session with their coaches in the lobby, off-ice.

Do I need my own skates? What size rental skates should I get?

Rental skates are included free with your Learn to Skate USA package. When choosing a size, start with your shoe size and check that they fit snugly.

I think I am ready to buy figure skates. Any recommendations?

LSA recommends purchasing through a knowledgeable dealer. For new skate inquiries and information about LSA’s used skates inventory and bi-annual used equipment sale, contact the LSA Learn to Skate USA Director.

I am interested in hockey. Do I need a special class?

Learn to Skate USA curriculums cover a wide range of programs, including hockey. The skills covered are the foundations of all skating disciplines — figure skating, hockey, speed skating, and recreational skating. Learn to Skate USA is endorsed by USA Hockey.

How much should I practice?

Practice is an important way to develop and improve your skating skills. The free skate is part of your Learn to Skate USA package, allowing practice time following group instruction plus the opportunity to hire a coach for private lessons. LSA also has open free skate sessions that Learn to Skate USA members can purchase for extra practice time.

What other programs are available?

LSA offers a wide variety of programming annually, including Aspire, The Coolest Camp in Town (summer and winter), Frozen FEAT Skating, Basic Skills Competitions, Nutcracker on Ice, Fire & Ice Exhibitions, and Competitive Training.

Do you provide discounts for groups?

Yes. LSA offers special rates for group outings including scout groups, youth organizations, school groups, and business groups.
